Why Have Bollywood Biggies Still Not Announced Release Dates?

Why Have Bollywood Biggies Still Not Announced Release Dates?

2021 rolled in and with that our hopes of watching the big Bollywood movies in the theatres, came in too. From the beginning of the year the Southern movie industry has started releasing the dates of the mega movies that people are so fondly waiting for. At least the dates have given some sort of hopes to the fans out there. Some even have gone on to disclose the ways the movies will be released, whether it will be through OTT or theatrical releases, people now have the updates about it.

But that sadly, can’t be said for the movies from Bollywood. With big budget and star cast movies like Sooryavanshi, ’84 and others, we still have no idea as to when and how the movies will release. As far as we know, we only have a confirmation about Salman Khan’s much awaited Radhe. Movies which earlier stated that it will release in OTT are nowhere to be found. So what is actually causing all the delays for all these Bollywood movies?

There might be various reasons but one of the biggest reasons for movies not releasing or having no up to date info is still the Pandemic. Now one may question that even after the Indian government allowed 100% occupancy for all cinema halls across the country, why is pandemic still the reason. Well, the short and simple answer to all these is that the international markets are still off the lists.

For Bollywood movies, the US and the UK play big roles increasing the Box Office revenues for movies that release internationally and the ones that have superstars like Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan and others. The US still hasn’t completely opened up all of its theatres and as for the UK; it is still under lockdown after the spread of the UK variant of the Coronavirus. Even though Sooryavanshi has disclosed the deals of its upcoming release, one can only speculate as to when the movie will be out for the audience to watch.

It clearly tells us how the international markets play a massive role in bringing big time profits for our movie industries. The love for Indian content has only increased, be it Bollywood or the movie industries down south, countries like the US, the UK and others, all see massive successes. As per reports by an online portal Moneycontrol, international releases of Bollywood movies bought in Rs. 2700 crore to the Box Office in 2019. This was the time when businesses all around started shrinking and 2020 followed in.

Waiting for a while for the international markets to open up makes sense to us as we understand how this will affect the industry and the movie business, which underwent a massive gap of almost no releases last year. Also, the world is still healing from the wounds of last year, enjoying a mega movie will be much more fruitful and fans around the globe can enjoy it together.
