Tomorrow the new show ‘IRL: In Real Love’ is going to premiere on Netflix India. But does the platform require any such shows?
The shoe will have four single people who are looking for Love and they have to choose partners from online dating and offline old-school ways and they have to find things in common and see of they are suitable for each other or not. Rannvijay Singh and Gauhar Khan will be hosting the show.
IRL: In Real Love follows the typical MTV show format and walks on the footsteps of shows like ‘Splitsvilla’ which was hosted by Sunny Leone and Rannvijay or some other show like ‘MTV Love School’ or ‘Ex Or Next’. In Real Love obviously does nothing new, innovative or exceptional in the genre and is as bland as possible. Producing such shows are harmful for the platform itself and though Netflix is promoting the series and putting so much money into it, it will actually take it behind other competitors.
Netflix has been trolled time and again for its distance from the audience and unavailability of a bridhe between dand and supply, yet the platform has managed to produce many wonderful originals. Shows like In Real Love are nowhere original and they do no good to a platform. When these types of shows were being made in the West, there was a huge emerging market for them and shows like Splitsvilla took advantage of it and was successful. In Real Love too will get a certain amount of views as there will always be some audiences for these shows, but it can never elevate the platform to a higher level, moreover it will block the way of variety of content.
