DC’s obsession with Batman contents is not going to end soon. They have done many movies with multiple actors based on the caped crusader and the new Batman movie with Robert Pattinson is the latest entry on it. But Batman 2022 was a cherry on the top of those Batman movies. DC has also finished shooting of Batgirl series which is set to release in the near future on HBO Max. Even though this is the first live action series of Batgirl the show is a bunch load of mess.
They haven’t revealed much about the plot of the upcoming Batgirl series, but it is confusing when J.K Simmons is returning as James Gordon who played the similar role in “Justice league” movie. But now that they are not likely to continue the Justice League timeline it is confusing why he returned. And it is even more surprising when Michael Keaton is returning as Batman in the series when we already have a Batman in the main universe. The star was previously cast as Batman along with Ben Affleck in the new Flashpoint movie with Ezra Miller as Flash. It seemed DC is giving a tribute to their first ever live action Batman just like Marvel did to Spiderman in No Way Home.
But if the rumours are true, they will wipe all the relevance of the Justice league movie and will replace Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavil’s Superman. And since Michael Keaton’s Batman is in the cast of Batgirl it is almost confirmed. Similarly a Supergirl movie is in the works with Sasha Calle who will be the new Superman of DECU. When the original members of Justice league got their independent movies in DCEU, Ben Affleck’s Batman is the only one who doesn’t have a stand-alone movie. But still they are ignoring his Batman and making a Batgirl series.
Introducing a new cast with new movies and shows is not that bad. But since DC is creating their own cinematic universe, what is the point when they put a full stop abruptly to their favourite characters which will alter the direction of DECU suddenly and make previous movies irrelevant. If we take Marvel, they are the perfect example of creating a cinematic universe making every movie connected and leading into one single crisis.
