The idea of an Avengers Disney+ series sounds really amazing, right? Well, here comes producer Brad Winderbaum and his recent statement about the idea. Oh, wait! You might want to take his statement with a grain of salt.
While Marvel has tried different things in both the Infinity and the Multiverse sagas, they are certainly not interested in doing an Avengers-based television series.
In his recent interview with CinemaBlend, Winderbaum talked about this scenario and explained that the issue lies with the manner in which the superhero team’s storylines are structured.
“I think the Avengers are about…. ‘there came a day when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes had to assemble,'” Winderbaum said. “In a feature film, which is a statement piece, it makes sense that there’s an event that galvanizes them all. I think that on a long-form television show, it becomes more of a challenge to have, ‘There came a day, every day.'”
Winderbaum’s statement makes sense though, given the fact that the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are generally brought together in cases of major universe-level threats. The episodic nature of television may curb or mute the impact of the sense of urgency and heroism that is needed to tackle those threats. A Disney+ series would likely focus more on individual character arcs and low-level conflicts.
Plus, we have the issue of budget. Avengers: Endgame’s budget escalated to nearly $356-400 million. It means that an Avengers-based Disney+ series would need a significant budget to showcase the action sequences and visuals expected from the Avengers movies. Also, not every Marvel’s big-budgeted television show has worked out well among the audience. Remember Secret Invasion? Marvel spent over $212 million on this lame and messed up show. In return, the show was able to attract only 994,000 viewers within its first week. Given the show’s extraordinary budget, this viewership figure should have been higher.
The Avengers will team up again in two new movies. Avengers: Doomsday is set to come out in May 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will hit the theatres in May 2027. Stay tuned for more updates.
