Reacher Season 3 opened its account on Prime Video with three episodes on its premiere and has already proved why the latest season is better than Season 2. Based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novel Persuader (2003), the third season takes the brawny protagonist (played by Alan Ritchson) to Maine, where he starts working as a federal informant for the DEA’s Susan Duffy (Sonya Cassidy).
Reacher attempts to infiltrate the close circle of the affluent Zachary Beck (Anthony Michael Hall) with the help of his son, Richard (Johnny Berchtold), whose company, Bizarre Bazaar, is supposedly in the rug business. This investigation uncovers the shocking reappearance of Quinn (Brian Tee), a former adversary and American traitor whom Reacher believed to be deceased.
One of the aspects that make Reacher Season 3 miles better than Season 2 is its tight focus and grip on the source material. Moreover, the latest season benefits from a smaller number of characters. In the second season, we got to know more about the members of Reacher’s 110th unit, including Frances Neagley (Maria Sten), Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan), David O’Donnell (Shaun Sipos), and more.
While Season 2 had plenty of good camaraderie among the 110th, it also took the focus away from the leading man. The second season should have been about Reacher; instead, there were times when the focus shifted too much to other members of the 110th, particularly Neagley and Dixon. Plus, Season 2 felt a bit overstuffed in terms of storyline and characters.
Season 3 has sorted out these issues by focusing on a limited number of characters and bringing the spotlight back to Reacher. Plus, Persuader is considered one of the best Jack Reacher novels from Child, which increases the odds of Season 3 becoming the best chapter of the show.
Even the bad guys in Season 3 look meaner and bigger than those in Season 2. The former delivers a collection of remarkably well-crafted and deadly villains. From the shadowy Xavier Quinn, tied to Reacher’s past, to the physically dominant Paulie Van Hoven, bodyguard to Zachary Beck, the season offers a diverse and threatening array of antagonists.
While Reacher may have more intelligence and wit, the villains in the ongoing season are more lethal and brutish than those from previous seasons.
Moreover, beyond the romantic element, Sonya Cassidy delivers a highly engaging performance as Susan Duffy in Reacher Season 3. She distinguishes herself as a fiercely determined and memorable sidekick, setting her apart from previous seasonal love interests.
Season 2 was bigger in terms of action and scale, but it also had plenty of heartwarming moments, whereas Reacher Season 3 takes a completely different direction, looking darker than previous seasons.
