One of the latest ‘bombshell’ reports from Variety revealed that Marvel Studios considered replacing Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror with the iconic Doctor Doom. This scenario surfaced due to Quantumania’s poor critical and audience reception and the uncertainty revolving around Majors’ ongoing legal issues. Given the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige and his team should drop the idea of replacing Kang with Doctor Doom.
Majors debuted in the MCU through Loki Season 1. He played one of Kang’s variants, He Who Remains, in the first season. His outstanding performance made Marvel fans excited about seeing him in future MCU projects. However, all hell broke loose after Quantumania tanked at the global box office. Things got spicier after the actor was arrested on the charges of domestic violence, putting the MCU’s future in complete disarray.
Variety disclosed that Feige and his team considered dropping Kang and focusing on Doctor Doom. However, they decided to stick with Majors, unlike other studios that broke all connections with the actor after his domestic violence issue. Because of that reason, we witnessed Majors in Loki Season 2 as Victor Timely.
Marvel Studios should have gone for Doctor Doom right after the events of Endgame (2019). The globally prominent Fantastic Four adversary is one of the most memorable supervillains of all time. But introducing him to the MCU now will mess everything up for the studio, as it does not have enough time to make a new villain ‘the next big baddie after Thanos’.
The only option Kevin Feige can opt for is to look for a new actor for the role of Kang and his variants. Recasting Kang will save Marvel Studios from many troubles. However, they cannot commence the recasting procedure due to the ongoing actors’ strike. Stay tuned for more updates.
