There has been quite a large number of hit South Korean limited series and K-dramas this year. Some of the titles like Twenty Five-Twenty One, Business Proposal, Extraordinary Attorney Woo etc wowed audiences world-wide. Their reach and impact on Indian audiences have also been massive to the point that some of these shows even stream with Hindi dubbing on Netflix India. We have another addition to this list now. It is none other than the latest tvN offering : Under the Queen’s Umbrella.
The K-drama of the season premiered on tvN on October 15th. The show is already buzzing high and luckily streaming on Netflix India as well for curious Indian K-drama fanatics. With two episodes dropping every week on Saturdays and Sundays, the show is an interesting black comedy in the sageuk template.
The series is a fun and interesting take at the way Joseon Princes were chosen and trained. It specifically deals with the top 1% education method in Joseon dynasty to make the troublemaker princes, who cause nuisance for the royal family, into proper princes. The redemptive training practices followed during the Joseon era and how the Queen crown stands by her sons forms the crux of the show.
Under the Queen’s Umbrella stars veteran actress Kim Hye-soo as the Queen. Popular for her stints in blockbuster K-Dramas like Signal, Hyena etc the veteran actress has already been grabbing eye-balls for her performance in the show. Kim Hae-sook and Choi Won-young co-star. With merely four episodes down, the show is already a TRP topper in South Korea. The show has also managed to grab the attention of K-Drama fans in general. It wouldn’t be a reach if we say that the show is going to be a rage worldwide in no time. If you’re looking to start a K-Drama, Under the Queen’s Umbrella would be your perfect start. Stay tuned for more such recommendations.
