X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg has offered valuable advice to Marvel Studios for its efforts of rebooting the iconic superhero franchise.
In his recent interview with Slash Film, Kinberg stated that Marvel should focus more on the characters of X-Men. “If I had one piece of advice, honestly, it is a very cliche thing, but it is just true: The strength of the X-Men is the characters,” he said. “As much as there’s great storytelling and great plot and incredible action sequences and all of those things are going to be required of the movies, as they are in the comics, what sets, for me, the X-Men apart is that they are the richest collection of characters in any comic book ever.”
Created by the legendary duo of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the iconic superhero faction made its comic debut with ‘The X-Men #1′ in 1963. Twelve years later, the X-Men comics were revived by Marvel under the creative direction of Chris Claremont. Led by Charles Xavier, the X-Men team mainly consists of Wolverine, Cyclops, Beast, Jean Grey, Storm, Rogue, Gambit, and many more. All these great characters possess distinct powers and abilities. In addition, the majority of projects based on the superhero group have explored their identities and personal struggles. People can relate to these characters because every one of them has his/her own set of flaws, similar to humans’ flaws, despite having amazing powers. The complexities, histories, and personalities associated with these characters are enough to generate significant interest about them in the minds of viewers, making them multi-dimensional along the way.
The X-Men team also takes care of the subject of diversity, as it consists of mutants belonging to different regions, cultures, and backgrounds. In addition, we have witnessed these characters tackling numerous mature themes, such as prejudice, discrimination, and other key societal issues. All these scenarios have made them entertaining for fans.
Shawn Levy’s Deadpool 3 officially marks the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine on the big screen. His arrival has generated online rumours about Fox’s X-Men making their MCU debut in the film. It will be interesting to see which X-Men characters will become a part of the MCU in future. Stay tuned for more updates.
