Venom: The Last Dance isn’t the final venom film; the movie is also Sony’s one shot at redemption for its very convoluted Sony Spiderman Universe. The movie has released its official runtime ahead of its release. The end of this trilogy is a little longer than the last one, with a runtime of 108 minutes and 48 seconds.
And while all those who have been used to the longer movies of the MCU, which on an average clock in around the two-hour mark, Sony prefers this shorter format. The first movie is the longest, with a runtime of an hour and 52 minutes. And it is understandable that the first one of a franchise takes a lot of time in exposition required to set up the character. The last one, however, has nothing to build upon, and the episodic nature of Sony’s universe makes it unnecessary to “wrap up” the loose ends.
The trailer shows Venom and Eddie on the run, as they are being hunted by both of their worlds. The movies have been constantly criticized. Hence, to make a longer movie is a gamble. The movies now tend to be a rather problematic affair for Sony, as the outrage has been constant. The Venom character takes a lot of VFX as well, so cost-cutting becomes necessary.
It is not a constant for Sony only; MCUs The Marvel was a 105-minute film. And to see the experimental nature of Sony movies, it is logical that the runtime will be cut short.
