Just a few days back we analysed how several OTT apps ask for permissions that they do not even need. What’s the use of camera and media permission for an OTT app?
Yes, you always have the option of not allowing those permissions but why demand for them in the first place?
Moreover, we can’t really trust these apps in terms of privacy as there have been several instances where once trustable-looking companies like LinkedIn and Facebook sold the data of the users in a highly unethical manner.
So whom can users really turn up to in such situations? TRAI is usually responsible for the regulation of these OTT platforms. Recently, they published a 180-page long document regarding the prospects and governance of these platforms. Sadly, it still does not talk about the Privacy of the users. In an age when Privacy is a fundamental right, we must ensure laws that protect the privacy rights of the users in the best possible manner.
Normally, such things rarely make it to the priority list of the lawmakers but all we can do is to hope and raise voices. Let’s see what happens regarding this issue. Stay tuned to Binged for all updates regarding the OTT industry.
