We know how quality movies always get suppressed under the weight of big movie productions. It is a common trend found in every movie industry around the world. The same thing is happening with Vasanth Ravi’s Rocky. Its lack of hype and star power might have forced the OTT platforms to stay away from the movie. But we do know that it is one of the best and most underrated movies in recent times. The duo of Vasanth and director Arun Matheswaran has knocked it out of the park with Rocky.
Ravi made his Tamil debut with Taramani three years ago. His heart-winning performance helped him in bagging the Filmfare (South). Then, we had to wait for three long years to see him again on the big screen. And the actor didn’t disappoint the audience with his sensational and gripping performance in Rocky.
So, the multi-dollar question is here. Will we see Rocky getting dispatched on OTT anytime soon? Well, Ravi’s action thriller has a lot to worry about even after creating a sensation on social media. First, it suffers from the lack of a big name in its cast. Yes, we know the leading man is capable of doing amazing things on the big screen. Still, his name is not enough to attract big OTT platforms. Even the inclusion of Nayanthara as a distributor is not helping the film.
Should we blame the viewers for this scenario? Not exactly! Big-budget projects with star-studded casts always attract moviegoers. It is natural. Things get more ugly when a small project like Rocky has to compete against Spider-Man No Way Home and Pushpa: The Rise in theatres.
No OTT platform has announced the release of Rocky so far. But its growing fame may attract some streaming platforms in future. Plus, we cannot put the ongoing COVID pandemic out of the equation. The recent surge in COVID and Omicron cases has forced various Indian states to shut down movie theatres. Furthermore, the movie possesses an outstanding opportunity to earn big profits via its OTT release.
Rocky was dispatched on December 23. It stars Vasanth Ravi, Bharathiraja, and Raveena Ravi.
