After the smashing success of Korean series ‘Moving’, ‘A Shop For Killers’ and more, Disney Plus is gearing up to release its newest Korean drama soon. Crime and investigation series ‘Chief Detective 1958’ premieres on Disney Plus worldwide on 19th April, 2024. The series will stream in India on Disney Plus Hotstar on the same day.
Crime series ‘Chief Detective 1958’ is a prequel of sorts to South Korea’s popular TV show ‘Chief Inspector’, which aired on Korean TV for 18 long years. ‘Chief Detective 1958’ will showcase the younger version of Detective Park Young-han, the character made popular in the series Chief Inspector.
Actor Lee Je-hoon portrays Detective Park Young-han in Chief Detective 1958. The actor is known for several loved titles, recent ones being the series Signal, Where Stars Land, Taxi Driver, among others.
Lee Dong-hwi, Choi Woo-sung and Yoon Hyun-soo, among others, form the rest of the cast of ‘Chief Detective 1958’. The series is written by Kim Young-shin, directed by Kim Seong-hoon, and created by Park Jae-beom, who’s earlier written and created hit shows such as Good Doctor (the Korean original of The Good Doctor), Good Manager, The Fiery Priest, and the recent Vincenzo.
As the title suggests, ‘Chief Detective 1958’ is set in the 1950s, and centers on the world of crime investigation and detection when technology such as CCTVs and DNA profiling weren’t used to solve criminal cases yet. The retro crime investigation drama is set at a time when crimes were solved solely with innate sense, insight, and tenacity.
Going by the premise, ‘Chief Detective 1958’ promises to be an interesting watch. Tune in to Disney Plus Hotstar on 19th April to catch the series.
