“12th Fail.” These two words from a spectacular film need no introduction. Needless to say, the well-made drama was greatly received and is indeed a force to be reckoned with, both commercially and critically.
The film was released solely in Hindi, particularly because it was a sleeper hit. Nobody saw the film becoming a superhit, which is probably why the makers didn’t bother to release it in multiple languages initially.
But now that the film is recognized as one of the best films from Bollywood in recent years, there is naturally a demand for it to be available in South Indian languages.
Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the movie stars Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar in the lead roles. The film became successful because of the heartfelt emotions it carries and the honest portrayals of IPS Manoj Kumar and IAS Shraddha Joshi by the leads. Its climax, where Manoj breaks down after seeing the UPSC result, became one of the most memorable moments in Indian Cinema in recent years.
Now that the movie has earned respect in the Hindi-speaking belt, it has been dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. “12th Fail” is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
