After watching two fantastic seasons, OTT viewers are waiting with bated breath for Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Panchayat’ Season-3. Although S3’s filming wrapped up in November last year, the release date of the upcoming season is still shrouded in mystery.
Alongside ‘The Family Man’ and ‘Mirzapur’, ‘Panchayat’ is definitely amongst the hottest properties of Amazon Prime Video in India. So, will the streaming service do something different in terms of the release strategy of ‘Panchayat Season-3’? Akin to what Disney+ Hotstar did with ‘Aarya Season-3’, for instance? To create buzz over a period of time. More particularly after its latest series ‘Indian Police Force’ turned out to be a big disappointment for fans!
In case Amazon Prime Video releases ‘Panchayat S3’ in two parts or it releases the show on a weekly episode basis, then the move might not go down well with the streaming audiences. Because even ‘Aarya S3’ faced a lot of criticism when only one part of the season was released. A similar thing happened with SonyLIV’s ‘Tanaav’ when groups of episodes were released on different dates rather than streaming all at once.
Amazon Prime Video hasn’t adopted this annoying release strategy (weekly and two-part releases) for its major Hindi language shows like ‘The Family Man’, ‘Mirzapur’, and ‘Farzi’, etc. And chances are that it wouldn’t do it for ‘Panchayat Season-3’. But, on the other hand, ‘Jubilee’ was released in two parts separated by a week. So, nothing seems certain as of now.
Moreover, a few months back, fans of the acclaimed animated superhero series ‘Invincible’ expressed their disappointment and annoyance when the opening episode of ‘Invincible Season-2’ premiered on 3rd November followed by three episodes which were released on a weekly basis. And the remaining episodes of the season will premiere in March.
For another popular foreign series ‘Reacher’ too, Prime Video released the first three episodes of ‘Reacher Season-2’ followed by a one episode per week release strategy. This was unlike ‘Reacher Season-1’, whose all episodes concurrently premiered on the same date. So, Prime Video has changed its release method for the same show for its different seasons.
Can the Indian arm of Amazon Prime Video too follow the footsteps of its American counterpart and release ‘Panchayat Season-3’ like ‘Reacher Season-2’ was released across the globe? We don’t know that yet, but we sincerely hope and pray that doesn’t happen with ‘Panchayat Season-3’ because we understand the pleasure and satisfaction OTT viewers derive from binge-watching shows. Amazon – please don’t do that with ‘Panchayat’!
