Amazon Prime Video opened its account with the first Direct to Digital hit, Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru. The success has come after back to back failures for the platform ever since the Lockdown is imposed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. The track record of Netflix is not anything different when we consider Indian films that skipped the theatrical releases.
The OTT Giant will be looking at the Tamil film, Andhaghaaram which is going to be premiered on the 24th of this month. Andhaghaaaram is a supernatural thriller written and directed by a newcomer, V. Vignarajan. The fact that it is produced by promising young filmmaker Atlee got a decent craze for the film.
If Andhaghaaram also becomes a success, there will be a huge OTT market for Tamil films in the coming days. That will come in handy for small and medium-range films that are skeptical about releasing the films in theaters in these uncertain times. Netflix did not aggressive in acquiring Indian content despite favorable conditions due to the Lockdown. A hit may change the OTT giant’s perception of the Indian market. The film stars Arjun Das and Vinoth Kishan in lead roles. Pooja Ramachandran and Misha Ghoshal are the heroines.
