The SAG-AFTRA strike made some major changes not only inside the industry but also impacted the outside of it as well. It is not just the actors, writers, and creative people who are boycotting AI; the fans are massively aware of it too. And in recent hate-filled events, Civil War might get slapped with some accusations.
See, the fans are building the view that AI will take away the majority of jobs, and that isn’t false when it comes to traditional jobs. And as the majority of commoners are haunted by this feeling, it is also being reflected in their treatment of AI in the entertainment industry, which isn’t unjustified.
Studios are using AI to be more cost-efficient and cut labor. And as events like these are coming to the mainstream media, films and series are facing major backlash.
Initially, Secret Invasion used an AI-created intro that not only made the fans showcase major rage but also reflected in the ratings. Talking about the second major victim of this crime, Late Night with the Devil suffered a similar fate, though less vicious than Secret Invasion. It used an AI animation as a loading shot between takes.
And now, as the recent rumors state, Civil War is being accused of using AI-generated posters.
Talking about the reaction of the fans, they are having a justified ‘No Tolerance’ policy as they are too disappointed that it is coming from A24, which always believes in artistic freedom and voice. The AI allegations do seem out of place.
But nonetheless, the fans are disappointed, and here are some of the reactions:

AI anything isn’t as good as what a human can create. I want biological, actual humans to create art. This is the way it’s supposed to be. AI is being pushed on us by technocrats. Hire humans. That is where creativity is, in our organic nervous systems.

Now, for creative choice and if it’s extremely necessary, using AI isn’t the worst thing. But A24 already has one of the best teams in the world, and overshadowing them with some AI tool is definitely unjustified.
But unlike most films, this allegation came a bit late, and a good number of people rushed to the theaters. People won’t be reacting as much as in some previous reactions, but it does lower the credibility of A24, especially since they are synonymous with artistic films from the beginning.
However, this might impact some markets, especially India, as the film is releasing tomorrow, on April 19th. But from a general POV, the Indian audience, at least the majority of it, is still unbothered by AI in the entertainment industry.
