India is one of the biggest anime industry markets and has a huge fanbase. Fans have been asking for a dedicated anime streaming site for years. It is only now that Crunchyroll, the most extensive anime streaming service has decided to put more effort into improving its presence in India. More than 5,500 episodes of anime and 50 manga titles of Crunchyroll are available in India.
Crunchyroll CEO Brady McCollum is focusing on India more than ever. The company introduced new subscription prices under an affordable range of 79 Rupees per month. Crunchyroll has also surprised Indian anime-lovers with Hindi dubs of two shows, one of them is ‘My Dress Up Darling’ and the other, ‘Ranking Of Kings’. There are talks about some more Hindi dubs in the future and there will be anime in regional languages too if possible. This is great news for anime lovers who do not like the extra effort of reading subtitles. This decision will introduce more viewers to the industry.
Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have a lot of anime content already available in India but none of the shows ever featured in their top 10 lists. But that does not ensure a lack of popularity of anime in India. Crunchyroll chooses what anime is to be made available in which country on the basis of popularity and demand. And it is the biggest distributor of anime for a reason.
‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’ had a Hindi dubbed premiere in Indian theaters and it grossed more than 188,800 Dollars in the opening week. Brady McCollum confirmed there will definitely be more anime movies with Hindi audio. These recent developments will impact the success of the platform and they will create a stronger fandom.
