Disney is undergoing a major shift in its content strategy as its regional market dominance comes to an end. Netflix now reigns supreme, even in markets like India, which were once dominated by Prime Video but are now losing ground.
Practically, Disney is focusing on the South Asian market, particularly Korea, which has provided a breath of fresh air since last year.
While Netflix and Prime Video hold a strong grip, Disney might gain traction due to issues such as release delays and dubbing problems, leaving room for Disney to emerge as a major player in Korean content.
Disney expands its Korean content with thrilling additions like “Blood Free,” the mysterious “Unmasked,” the action-packed “The Tyrant,” and the crime drama “Gangnam B-Side.” Additionally, a third season of “The Zone: Survival Mission” is confirmed. Previously announced tentpoles include “Lightshop” and “Uncle Samsik,” starring Song Kang-ho. Expect more Korean titles from Disney this year.
To clarify the situation, Disney launched its services in South Korea in 2021, followed by significant investments resulting in a plethora of new content annually. On paper, the growth appears endless, and with healthy competition between the giants, both Disney and Netflix have room to expand.
