A few weeks back, we speculated that Aamir Khan could save the newly acquired Netflix show “The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show.” However, as the stats indicate, the show is no “Lagaan,” and Khan couldn’t really save it.
It started at the third spot in its first week, garnering around 2.5M views, but then saw a sharp decline. By the fourth week of its run, it was down to just 3.9M views, which was the second lowest for the show during its Netflix run.
Now, a big question arises: can going international save the show?
Recent updates state that Ed Sheeran will be appearing as a guest. This will likely attract an audience from the West, and given his dedicated fanbase, this might boost the total viewership of the show.
However, considering the dubbing scenario, it’s only available in Hindi audio, which will likely turn off the English-speaking audience. While there are subtitles, for a comedy show, subtitles often fail to capture the nuances and timing of jokes, making the humor feel stale.
“The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show” has already wrapped the shooting of the first season. The commencement and greenlighting of the second season will depend heavily on the performance of the first season. We will bring you the reports on the views. Stay tuned.
