Disney released the poster and trailer of its upcoming movie Cruella, starring Emma Stone in a never-seen-before avatar. “Hello, cruel world,” said the caption of this poster on Instagram.
The La La Land actor will unleash her dark side and play a negative role in this live-action prequel to 1996 film 101 Dalmatians. Cruella brings to light the origin of Cruella de Vil evil character, who initially started as a designer. Though we see her with Dalmatians in the new trailer, this movie will not focus on the dogs but on the reasons that led her to become a cruel and obsessed woman. This character was originally played by Glenn Close. Though she is not a part of the cast of Emma’s upcoming movie, she has signed up as an executive producer.
As seen in the trailer, Emma‘s look has been inspired by Glenn’s look in 1996 – two-toned hairstyle, dark lipstick, and heavy eye makeup. Soon after the release of 101 Dalmatians, the world hated Glenn’s villainous character. But this time, ever since Walt Disney has dropped Cruella’s trailer, fans can’t help but compare Emma with the ‘Joker.’ The Joker is the one character who broke all stereotypes and made us fall in love with a villain! Well, these comparisons are surely going to work in favour of Emma and give Glenn’s disliked character a new lease of life!
The film is rumoured to come out on Disney plus on 28th May 2021. However no official statement has been given with regards to the platform. The other cast members include Emma Thompson, Joe Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Mark Strong, and Emily Beecham among others. Craig Gillespie will be the director.
