On paper, Spider-Man Noir is one of the most exciting concepts in comics, and as it gets an adaptation by MGM Studios for Prime Video, a question arises: will it be a big hit?
Firstly, fans are typically weary of MCU and Sony, especially after the latter delivered some of the worst content from the Spider-Man universe. So, a new vision from a different studio is always appreciated by fans.
Amidst all this, while some may say Nicolas Cage has become a laughingstock among fans, he remains an icon in the industry. His retro look fits perfectly for a character like Spider-Man Noir.
Regarding the plot and timeline, “Spider-Man Noir” is set in 1933 during the Great Depression, where Peter Parker becomes a dark, gritty version of the hero. Gaining spider-like powers from a mystical spider idol, he exposes corruption in a crime-ridden New York. Clad in a black trench coat and mask, he battles ruthless villains like the Goblin, seeking justice in a shadowy, dangerous world. Nicolas Cage naturally comes to mind for such a role.
“I wanted to have that kind of aura, you know, like the more enigmatic, you don’t know too much. That’s why I’m not on social media. That’s the thinking, anyway. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens if I do this Amazon show [“Spider-Man Noir”], and they put me in black-and-white. We’ll see if we can get some of that flavor.”
Cage is definitely a good fit for the show, and as updates emerge, it’s revealed to be 8 episodes long. Describing the vibe of the show as ‘more of a Pop-art mashup’ resonates well with fans who enjoy the retro aesthetic.
Fans love seeing retro vibes in shows, and with the Spider-Man twist, this show has the potential to do exceptionally well for Prime Video. Prime Video just needs to keep it similar to what Netflix did with Marvel shows: make it violent and bloody—that’s the winning formula.
