Taking the case of Netflix as an example, it has been only recently that the online giant saw some profit. It is the most expensive streaming service in India, and it took a mobile-only cheaper plan of 199 rupees per month to get a little mass penetration in India.
On an average, an Indian is reportedly spending over seventy percent of their mobile data for entertainment. With increased tariffs, there is a doubt expressed that this percentage could reduce. It might, therefore, prove to be an unexpected bummer for streaming services.
However, the good news here is that the impact, won’t be visible immediately if at all there is going to be one. People seem to have not yet shown any dramatic shift in data consumption, even though it is still early days.
But, if there are sings the changes to the existing plans would be reflective of that, across the board. Let’s see how the price wars to attract viewers unfold in the coming months as new entrants are also entering the market.
