Sunny Deol led Gopichand Malineni’s Hindi directorial debut ‘Jaat’ is all set to launch on Netflix tomorrow on 5th June. An action thriller drama packed with massy moments was kind of tailor made for the big screen and it did do well at the box office.
Now that it is coming to OTT, the question arises whether it is going to work here as well or is it going to let down the more content craving digital audience like many other films from the genre?
To be honest, the chances of the latter happening is much higher. That’s because those full-on action stunts and the entertainment factor that got the audience roar out loud in theatres isn’t what the substance seeking OTT viewers prefer generally.
Consider the case of Netflix’s latest licensed films like ‘HIT 3’ and ‘Retro’, both star well established stars and did decent during their box office run but the same cannot be said about their streaming performance. That’s because people often tend to analyse films from a far more critical lens when it comes to watching it on OTT.
‘Jaat’ is bound to go undergo such scrutiny too and people are going to be ruthless if they feel it’s exaggerated and just about the action and masala entertainment and no substance. Whether or not ‘Jaat’s massy formula and Sunny Deol heroic aura works on OTT will be interesting to see.
