Kangana Ranaut‘s ambitious ‘Thalaivii‘ is all set to have a theatrical release on 10th September, Ganesh Chaturthi. The much awaited movie’s release got postponed twice, once in June last year and for the second time in April this year, due to the second wave of Covid-19, when theatres in India shut once again. The makers have now finally announced the film’s theatrical release, much to the relief of theatre associations. This will be the third Bollywood release in theatres, after Akshay Kumar‘s ‘Bell Bottom‘ and the Amitabh Bachchan-Emraan Hashmi starrer, ‘Chehre‘.
Lead actress Kangana took to Instagram to share the update. Directed by A.L. Vijay, ‘Thalaivii’, a biopic on late actress-turned-politician Jayalalithaa, is a multi-lingual, pan-India film to be released simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The trailer of the film was released earlier in March this year and got rave reviews. The film also stars Arvind Swami, Madhoo and Bhagyashree in pivotal roles.
Interestingly, the film will be favoured by the fact that theaters in Tamil Nadu have finally reopened and Maharashtra is also expected to follow suit soon. In which case, this film might end up getting the edge that the Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Bell Bottom’ didn’t. Maharashtra theatres constitute for approximately 30% of a film’s profit and sadly though expectedly, ‘Bell Bottom’ hasn’t been able to work the box office numbers quite obviously, since a huge chunk of viewers are missing from the count. Now with further relaxations and the probability of theatres reopening in the state, ‘Thalaivii’ may be able to do the trick that ‘Bell Bottom’ set out to do. This Kangana starrer definitely has the power to revive theatres and may end up getting movie-goers to throng cinema halls.
With some aggressive marketing in the next couple of weeks, the film could certainly overtake the business done by ‘Bell Bottom’ and get cinema owners breathing a sigh of relief. The next two weeks leading up to the film’s release should mostly see song releases from the film and some good promotional activities, which will help generate the necessary buzz. The makers are not likely to leave any stone unturned in the quest to make this film a blockbuster.
