One of Netflix‘s biggest ventures, the reportedly $200M budgeted mammoth ‘The Gray Man’ was released alongside great hype amongst the audience. Amidst the ensemble cast led by Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, and Ryan Gosling, star director duo Russo brothers, and impeccable production value, it was expected to be the biggest streaming hit yet for the company by many. If only it was so. The movie did good on the platform but was far from being the colossal success it dreamt of being.
With the comparatively dismal performance of the movie, all eyes are now on Netflix’s next big outing, the sequel to the hit investigation thriller Knives Out titled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Netflix acquired the rights to the sequels after a heated bidding war alongside biggies like Lionsgate, Amazon, and Apple.
The first Knives Out movie was a huge critical and commercial success, leading Netflix to shell out big bucks for the sequels to the whodunit film series with another 3rd film on cards. With director Rian Johnson returning and Daniel Craig set to reprise his role as Benoit Blanc, the movie is easily one of the most anticipated projects of the year.
Netflix is reportedly considering a new release model for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery that would give the film a 45-day window in theaters before being released on the streaming service. Set to release on December 23, 2022, on the streamer, Netflix will be betting on the Knives Out series being what it had wanted Gray Man to be.
