Lionsgate Play India is giving away the first episode of their original series for free. It takes us back to the memories of 2019-20. Vintage Hotstar had a really tempting habit of giving free starters to those visiting their app/website. They would let visitors stream the first episode of all their originals for free and even without logging in.
It really worked for the streaming giant as a result it enjoys an unparalleled monopoly over Indian OTT. Regardless let’s talk about Lionsgate Play.
IT'S FREEEEEEEEEEE! Its #PreviewFreeView – you can now watch the first episodes of more than 28 shows on Lionsgate Play for free! Guess your weekend isn't free any more 😉

The platform has created only two original series so far. Jugaadistan came in March 2022 and their first original Hiccups & Hookups came in November 2021.
They recently announced their third series called ‘Feels Like Home’ which will drop on 10th June.
The Twitter bio of Lionsgate Play says #PlayMoreBrowseLess and rightly so because the platform practically offers nothing to browse.
So why would someone spend 699 bucks annually which has just two Indian series and no original movie? Adding to that, they don’t have any popular Indian movies or a plethora of foreign content in their library.
They are indeed bringing a lot of foreign content but their frequency is so little that they easily announce them on their Twitter and YouTube channels. Meanwhile, it is impossible to do so for someone like Disney+Hotstar whose mobile plan costs 499 Rs annually.
So this free starter strategy is NOT AT ALL going to help Lionsgate Play because their identity is just that of a Prime Video channel. They need to do something out of the box because Prime Video already has 10 add-on channels and unlike Hoichoi, Lionsgate Play is not doing anything extraordinary.
