Nivin Pauly’s career has been going through a low phase lately. All of his recent theatrical releases have ended up unsuccessful and with shockingly low collections for a star of his stature. However, one of his films that didn’t deserve to fail in theatres was ‘Padavettu’.
The Liju Krishna directorial was released in theatres on October 21, alongside Mohanlal’s ‘Monster’. While the latter got mixed to negative reviews, the former, despite getting generally positive reviews, couldn’t find its audience in theatres. While the film was marred with controversies around its director, the movie’s underperforming was not expected to say the least. Now, with ‘Padavettu‘ gearing up for its digital premiere on Netflix, it is hoped that the film would get its due acknowledgment and praise.
‘Padavettu’ is a political action thriller and was produced by Saregama India’s film production division Yoodlee Films in association with Sunny Wayne productions. With spectacular cinematography, well-choreographed action scenes, and a well-designed background score by Govind Vasantha, the movie had all the trappings of a theatrical blockbuster.
The movie’s synopsis is: “A traumatized man who is stuck in life and finds peace by being lethargic is fooled by a party through using him and his family name as a gift of the party. It enrages him, and the frequent mockery by villagers about his inaction makes him mad. The president of the party who used him to gain a foothold in the next election aims to acquire more economic opportunities by controlling everything that happens in the village. However, the lead transforms into the savior of the oppressed and changes everyone’s perspective about the party president.”
‘Padavettu’ was successful in its attempt to make an original story, with its well-written screenplay being one of its biggest assets. The movie will have its digital release on Netflix on November 25, 2022. Do not miss this well-written political drama. This underrated gem from Malayalam cinema will definitely be worth a watch.
