“Paani” has hit the cinemas and is already drawing many eyeballs with its intriguing theme; however, it is with an extremely limited release that this film is seen to unlock all its potential on OTT platforms.
“Paani”, directed by Addinath Kothare, was produced by Purple Pebble Pictures and Rajshri Entertainment, starring Rucha Vaidya, Subodh Bhave, Kishor Kadam, and Addinath Kothare.
“Paani” is a water-warped film, set in the drought-prone region of Marathwada, which unfolds the saga of an ordinary man, Hanumant Kendre, on an extraordinary mission to solve the problem of acute water scarcity in his village, after being rejected by the family of his prospective bride for having the very same problem in his village. “Paani” smashes together beautifully Hanumant’s quest for love with his mission for social change.
With its powerful narrative and strong performances, “Paani” can do fairly well on the OTT platforms. It will reach people who might have missed it in theatres with the right promotion through Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. The movie can easily fly like this with the effective promotion or publicity so that viewers may get to watch its socially relevant theme from the comfort of their home.
Regional cinema, especially the ones not belonging to the South and Bollywood, lack awareness and viewership. There comes OTT, which can shift this situation and give such films the importance they deserve. “Paani” on an OTT may attract a greater audience in order to enhance regional films with meaningful stories.
