Disney+ Hotstar’s first Telugu Original series ‘Parampara’ released its first season on 24th December 2021. It proved to be an unprecedented success for the streamer when not just native telugu speakers, but also non-natives tuned in to watch the show. Followed by an instant season renewal, Parampara Season 2 will now premiere on Disney+Hotstar on 21st July, 2022.
The makers of Parampara season 2 released its official trailer last week and if anything is guaranteed, its the fact that revenge is Juicier in the second season. Parampara is modelled on the David Vs Goliath story. An underdog dutiful son, who fights his cunning and ruthless uncle for the honor of his wronged father. Naidu, the patriarch of the Naidu family, and his brother Mohan Rao have an unbreakable bond. But all hell breaks loose when Gopi, Mohanrao’s son, decides to unmask Naidu who has been oppressing Mohanrao all the while faking his love. This sprouts conflict between the brothers and their sons and crimes and vengeance follow. The second season takes off from the moment Gopi is released from prison.
With so much at stake, it must be seen if the second season of the show literally has amped up in quality or not. One proper parallel that can be drawn is with Sushmita Sen starrer ‘Aarya’. The Disney+ Hotstar original got much better and juicier in its second season, both scale and quality wise. The show also got nominated in the International Emmy Awards. Parampara Season 2 ofcourse has hiked notches and miles above scale wise (evident from the trailer), but for the show to actually deliver more than expectations and to undo the most itchy glitch in its first season i.e, its tv serial-like execution..is not easy. Now, if Parampara manages to undo the glitches of its previous season, we are definitely in for one solid Telugu language sequel to a well received original series. But there’s dusk to dawn difference in the sub-genres of both Arya and Parampara. While the former falls in Crime/Revenge/Thriller template, the latter is a Family Crime Drama pivoting around succession. So the target audience is quite different. Being the first telugu language original series to be renewed for a second season at Disney+Hotstar, Parampara Season 2 success is important and will pave way for the streamer to invest more and more in regional language originals.
