Prime Video’s hit series ‘Good Omens‘ returns to the streaming platform with its new Season 2 soon. For those who don’t know, Good Omens Season 2 will premiere on Prime Video worldwide on 28th July, which is this Friday. The David Tennant and Michael Sheen headlined series has gained a cult following amongst fans of the show.
Prime Video’s ‘Good Omens’ is adapted from the best-selling novel ‘Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch’, written by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett. The story revolves around two friends, an angel named Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and a demon named Crowley (David Tennant), who love living among mortals on Earth. They want to prevent Armageddon, the final battle between heaven and hell, from destroying it.
It is worth remembering that Good Omens had offended several Christian groups when it debuted on Prime Video back in 2020. Religious groups had taken offense to the irreverent jokes about the Bible in the show. The show landed in a controversy because of its content, with Christian groups even launching petitions to have the show removed from streaming.
So the question is, will Good Omens Season 2 follow in the footsteps of its debut season, and rile up religious groups this time around too? We think, not. The post-pandemic world is a lot more lenient towards matters of religion and taking offense over what after all is just entertainment. Of course, if the show was Indian, and the jokes were on any Indian religious book, it would be a different matter altogether.
But Good Omens is thankfully not in any danger of giving offense to the western viewers, who are more concerned about woke issues than religious ones.
Good Omens Season 2 premieres on Prime Video worldwide on July 28, 2023.
