The 2019 Telugu sci-fi action thriller ‘iSmart Shankar’ was a blockbuster hit and while launching its sequel ‘Double iSmart’ actor Rama Pothineni and the makers had similar expectations. Unfortunately, the sequel turned out to be a total disaster, failing miserably at the box office.
And eventually after almost three weeks (even before the industry standard of 4-5weeks), ‘Double iSmart’ has made its way to the digital platform Amazon Prime Video, hoping for some revival though it’s highly unlikely.
‘Double iSmart’ reunited director Puri Jagannadh and Ram Pothineni and was a crucial film for them. Jagannadh’s last film ‘Liger’ was a total flop and even led to shelving of his other project ‘Jana Gana Mana’ with Vijay Deverakonda. On the other hand, Pothineni isn’t having a very good time either, his previous film ‘‘The Warriorr’ was also a huge commercial failure. The actor is currently working on some other projects like ‘Skanda’ and an untitled Gautham Vasudev Menon film.
Now that ‘Double iSmart’ was of no help, both the actor and director are pinning their hopes on their future ventures and rightly so. While the story, acting, direction and overall presentation of the film matter a lot, releasing the film during the crowded Independence Day slot was probably not the right thing to do.
Anyways, not much is expected from the film on OTT either but still one never knows how the audience reacts. ‘Double iSmart’ is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, if you would want to give it a go.
