“Soorarai Pottru”, a Tamil movie is coming up on Amazon Prime Video and it’s going to show us a part of history that’s needed to be told and retold. No, this isn’t some historical movie but historical in the sense that this will showcase some great facts that has changed the game for India’s aviation system. “Soorarai Pottru” has the legendary Suriya leading the movie for us, giving it another bonus point. It is set to be released on 12th of November.
“Soorarai Pottru” is chronicled in the autobiography of the great Captain G. R. Gopinath which bought out a revolution in the aviation industry for bringing out low-cost airline tickets which can be afforded by people at a time, when flying was just a rich man’s thing. Though the story doesn’t have the same backdrop as that of the autobiography it still gives us glimpses about the story that it is based on.
A fight against politicians, bureaucrats, officials, and even his family, Maara, the character played by Suriya takes upon his hands the dream of letting people fly at a budget-friendly price in airplanes. This was in reality the beginning of the Air Deccan, which was founded by Captain G. R. Gopinath. This movie tells us the story of dreaming unstoppably and making it a reality even though it means you need to fly.
The struggle, the reality, the fight against all odds today has bought up a system that is benefiting everyone. It took one man and his fight to change the systems. Though the movie has clearly mentioned that it isn’t entirely based on the book but it definitely has shown that the book has inspired the movie to be made. Few excerpts too were added in the movie from the book.
Putting together a cast of legendary actors like Suriya, Paresh Rawal, Aparna Balamurali, Mohan Naidu, Urvashi and many more, this movie will be nothing less than amazing. Directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by Suriya and Guneet Mongra, this movie will be released both in Tamil and Telugu. A dubbed Malayalam and Kannada version will also be released simultaneously.
