John Abraham’s latest upcoming film ‘The Diplomat’ is set for release on 7th March, 2025 and the teaser for the same is now out. Helmed by Shivam Nair, ‘The Diplomat’ is based on a true story.
The teaser begins with a clip of our current external affairs minister Mr S. Jaishankar telling how the world’s biggest diplomats were Lord Krishna and Lord Hanuman. Although how that holds relevance to the film isn’t clear in the teaser.
The video further shows a burkha clad girl approaching a high ranking Indian diplomat in Pakistan (played by John Abraham) to reveal something important possibly. The rest of the teaser is all about the officer’s persuasive techniques, his diplomatic wisdom and how he tackles the Pakistani forces while trying to stay ahead of them all the time.
To be honest, the teaser is not at all exciting and is pretty mundane and routine, which is quite a let down given film’s the geo-political theme which is often fueled with adrenaline and thrill.
‘The Diplomat’ won’t be Abraham’s first film in this genre who has previously done films like ‘Madras Cafe’, ‘Parmanu’, and ‘Batla House’. Not to forget all these three films have been hit and did well commercially and critically.
That pops the question, will ‘The Diplomat’ emerge as the saviour film for John Abraham? It definitely has the potential given his experience in this genre and also because it can be a departure from full time action roles he has been playing recently.
With ‘The Diplomat’ Abraham can balance the action part with some good acting and that can go a long way to show that he ain’t just all muscles. Moreover, us Indians ride high on patriotic themes and this could be another good thing for Abraham.
But all that depends on how well written is the film’s plot and whether or not it is executed in a non-predictable and engaging manner.
Directed by Shivam Nair (‘Special Ops’, ‘Naam Shabana’) and written by Ritesh Shah, ‘The Diplomat’ also stars Sadia Khateeb, Revathy, Kumud Mishra and Sharib Hashmi. Produced by T-Series, JA Entertainment, Fortune Pictures and Wakoo Films, ‘The Diplomat’ will release on the big screen on 7th March, 2025.
