Creators and filmmakers and audiences have wanted a cinematic experience that is raw and realistic for a very long time now. Even the viewers wish to see thrillers and other projects which are deeply rooted in the local culture in which they are brought up so that there is a proper representation of the roots.
The OTT space was able to give us that as it was free from the clutches of censorship and at many times depicted the ground reality of what was going on but this kind of freedom can also act as a double-edged sword. Amazon Prime Video has been making the rounds for stirring up controversy time and again which forces us to ask the same question for the umpteenth time. ‘How much creative freedom and in what context should it be given to the creators?’ even though this may sound like some first-world problem the reality is that a lot of our thinking and ideologies are shaped by the kind of digital content that we consume regularly.
The Family Man 2 was the hot topic as it was keenly awaited by all the viewers. While it has received a lot of love it is also getting a lot of hate from a section that believes that they are being portrayed in a bad light. Samantha Akkineni herself has been getting a lot of hate but all of this even before the show has been released.
Will this act as a thorn for creators who want to make a difference with their content but fear that the sensitivity of their content may get them into trouble? The OTT space used to be a haven for experimentation and challenging themes and topics but will it just fizzle into another version of the previous mainstream cinema that was filled with cliched characters and storylines.
The Family Man 2 will release on Amazon Prime Video on 4th June.
