Talking about prime Indian television, dinner time comedies have a special place in the hearts of the audience. Now, the shows vary regionally, but keeping the majority Hindi-speaking community in mind, The Kapil Sharma Show was the go-to choice for many Indians.
However, several disputes and controversies have hampered the show in a significant way, leading to several big departures. Netflix scored a major win over regular television by acquiring the show, which was already declining in popularity, and Netflix will definitely benefit from this.
The question arises: Will people treat it well on Netflix?
In terms of numbers, Netflix had around 5.5 million subscribers in 2023, and that number might increase. However, the subscriber pool is relatively small compared to other large nations. Additionally, a portion of these subscribers are Hindi-speaking, so there will definitely be a major language barrier.

For reference, the television counterpart had a viewership of 58 million, which is more than 10 times the entire subscriber base of Netflix India. This lack of accessibility could pose a challenge for the platform. The smartest move would be for Netflix to offer it as a free viewing experience and incorporate advertisements for revenue.
This approach would have allowed Netflix to leverage The Kapil Sharma Show’s popularity and potentially grow exponentially. However, as of now, they aren’t taking this route. So, will The Great Indian Kapil Show match up to the level of its television predecessor?
