The merger of Disney Star and Reliance Entertainment is officially completed. The news was shared in the form of a press release with the media and common people. However, there is one typical thing about this merger that must be kept in mind.
It is the name. Nowhere in the Press Release, the name of the joint venture has been mentioned. They simply address it by JV.
So, what is going to happen?
We don’t know the name. But let’s go by the reports. Let’s assume that JioStar will be the name of the joint venture.
So, will JioStar be more expensive than the existing JioCinema?
Looks like it. You see, this ₹29/month pricing is great but it is not sustainable. If Reliance is bringing a far bigger content library along with so many promising things then there has to be something more than merely ₹29/month.
The new joint venture will have a Disney library that has Marvel things, Fox Star things, Lucas Movies and whatnot. These things along with typical HBO content according to the 3-year deal will cost dearly to Reliance. Naturally, we can see a fee hike but that will never be exponentially high.
Reliance is smart enough to not piss off its core subscriber base which is habituated to low prices.
