After 15th August, which came with the release of multiple big movies, the second half of the month was quite devoid of Hindi films. The handful of films that were released could not attract an audience towards them and if not for Stree 2 and the old re-releases, Hindi speaking audiences would have faced a lack of choice there. This month was expected to start big with Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency which was scheduled to be released on Friday, 6th September. Now the movie has been postponed and the week has no Hindi films releasing. This pushes back the Hindi speaking audience with lack of options.
The lack of Hindi movies will create a chance for Stree 2 to take the charge now. The movie was released on August 15th, and till yet its shine can be seen in the cinemas going full. With the lack of new Hindi movies, supposedly Stree 2 can attract an audience and continue its streak to fill cinemas. Along with Stree 2, a big chunk of the Hindi speaking audience will also move towards the re-releases. Currently movies like Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein and Laila Majnu are the re-releases which are dominating theatres. Although there might be people who either have watched the movies or are not big fans of it so they will pass watching them.
People are most likely to move towards Southern regional films. Kalki which was launched back in June, is still running in many theatres in Hindi language. Thangalaan is about to be released in Hindi, and considering its success regionally, it has the capability of dominating the northern theatres as well. Also, Vijay starrer The Greatest of All Times (GOAT) is also set to make a grand opening on September 5th. The film is supposed to occupy a big place in the box office and though, as of now it will be released in Tamil and Telugu only, still, it has the capacity to fill theatres in the northern parts as well.
Ultimately, though the first week of the month is devoid of Hindi films, Hindi speaking audiences still have many options with them to watch. But the fact that either the audience will have to rely on old films or go to southern cinema for their entertainment still remains due to the lack of a good Hindi film is evident.
