Vikramaditya Motwane’s upcoming period drama series ‘Jubilee’ is all set to start streaming on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform from this Friday, that is, from 7th April onwards.
Since ‘Jubilee’ is a brainchild of, and has been directed by the supremely gifted filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, Indian audiences can be assured of some quality piece of work on the small screen. From the show’s trailer, it is apparent that the makers have absolutely nailed the period look in Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Jubilee’.
However, considering how the makers have apparently shelled out a massive amount for top-notch production values and to recreate the period era, they could have rethought about one thing which might prove to be a potential downside for ‘Jubilee’. It’s the show’s casting. More particularly, casting Aparshakti Khurana for such a vital and major role.
We understand that Aparshakti Khurana is a proficient and adorable performer and has huge potential as an actor. He has amply displayed his acting chops in films like Nitesh Tiwari’s sports drama ‘Dangal’, and Amar Kaushik’s horror comedy ‘Stree’, amongst other projects.
But was it a bit too early to cast him in a major role for such an important and big-ticket project for Amazon Prime Video? We earnestly hope that the audiences will be in for a pleasant surprise with reference to Aparshakti Khurana’s role and performance in ‘Jubilee’, especially the way it’ll be accepted by OTT viewers. We’re not doubting his acting skills at all but the ability to attract and pull OTT audiences in big numbers.
For instance, look at the casting of the recent Amazon Prime Video series ‘Farzi’ by Raj & DK. The casting for each and every actor including Shahid Kapoor, Kay Kay Menon, and Vijay Sethupathi was spot-on with the required amount of star power as well. And the outcome is right in front of you – the show has brought in massive viewing numbers for the OTT platform. But would it have been the same if the casting for ‘Farzi’ was totally different and/or not as good?
Perhaps the makers of ‘Jubilee’ had already thought this through or maybe it’s a calculated gamble. Even if it is a big gamble, the question is: Will it pay off? That, only time will tell. To be precise, just two more days.
Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Jubilee’ focuses on various characters and their dreams, rivalries, and scandals during the golden age of the Hindi film industry. Besides Aparshakti Khurana, the show also features Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Ram Kapoor, Sidhant Gupta, and Wamiqa Gabbi, amongst others.
