The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, along with the Indian Government, is now shifting its focus to the entertainment industry. A few weeks ago, an exciting update hit the market that the government is building a studio worth ₹10,000 crore, and now they are making an attempt to diversify interest in the industry.
Enter WAVES.
The World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) is an initiative by India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to enhance the global presence of India’s Media & Entertainment industry.
Set to be a major event, WAVES will bring together global M&E icons to focus on entertainment economics and technology. The summit aims to position India as a leading hub for high-quality, cost-efficient content creation, leveraging its recognized strengths in animation, VFX, and diverse content production.
But will this be enough to uplift the industry, or even better… give it global exposure?
There’s no definite answer to that. If India manages to pull this off smoothly, nothing can stop it. Series like *Paatal Lok*, *Scam 1992*, or *The Family Man* deserve global exposure. But while the overall quality of content is improving, it’s not quite at the global level yet. But what’s the problem?
The issue isn’t talent—it’s investment.
India has the necessary talent, but creating content requires money, which India hasn’t been investing in sufficiently until now. With the development of OTT platforms and studios, events like WAVES could bring new talent and fresh faces to the forefront.
From Esports competitions to Anime challenges, the event covers diverse fields, which will attract a wide audience. And with OTT on the rise, now is the best time to give it a little push.
Moreover, the government promises that this initiative will boost jobs, potentially increasing employment by 2-3 lakh in the entertainment and gaming industry—a positive step toward strengthening India’s creative sector.
