The recent merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery is looking to shake things up for the DC Extended Universe. For many years, the prominent movie studio has utilised notable DC characters for filling its pockets with immense profits. Characters like Batman and Superman commenced entertaining the fans through movies in the 1980s. However, other DC figures like Catwoman, Jonah Hex, Constantine, and many more didn’t dazzle the viewers via their respective film projects.
From a money-making viewpoint, the characters and storylines related to DC are one of the most beneficial departments for Warner Bros. And there is no way in hell that the studio will ever let go of the DC content despite constantly suffering the wrath of the comic book fans. The majority of the DC fanbase wants WB to stay as far away as possible from the legendary comic book publication. But we also know how movie studios work everywhere.
Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy brought monumental financial success for Warner Bros. And the Arrowverse franchise still has a lot of fuel left in its tank. Plus, several new shows are ready to drop on the HBO Max streaming platform. So, what went wrong with the DCEU? Nearly nine years have passed since the inception of this fatigued superhero hoopla. Still, it has not managed to find the right direction. The studio had an amazing opportunity to do something special with this franchise. But the lack of proper guidance fused with the executives’ pathetic strategies to copy the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s style of filming resulted in DCEU’s doom.
There have been a lot of predictions about DCEU’s future after the last week’s merging between Warner Bros and Discovery. Various reports have revealed that David Zaslav, the new landlord of Warner Bros Discovery, is looking to overhaul several major DC productions. According to Variety, this overhaul may generate a chance for DC for getting its studio as Marvel has right now. Additionally, the new owner wants to unseal DC’s full capability and magic. His team is also concerned about Superman’s treatment in future DC instalments.
We know that the financial bombing of Joss Whedon’s Justice League forced the WB executives to focus more on standalone superhero projects. They tried various ugly methods to bury Snyderverse for good. But thanks to the DC fanbase for keeping it alive in their hearts.
Warner Bros Discovery reportedly wants to give a new start to the DC world. Apart from Superman, the company is also interested in delivering some independent projects like Joker to the fans. Will it restore the Snyderverse? Will we see Henry Cavill returning for one more time to don Superman’s cape in future? What will happen to the current DCEU timeline? Only time will tell us.
We should get accustomed to watching the forthcoming DC projects in a new way now. This fresh approach of WB Discovery towards the DC characters may bestow them a chance to soar high in the sky.
