There are tons of new announcements on Netflix India today. Primarily because they are hosting this Next on Netflix event where they tease or announce their upcoming slate. Although there are many many announcements, one of them caught our eyes.
It is called Akka. If you are familiar with Telugu then Akka is an elder sister. This series is about a matriarchal system of mafia where women run the arms and gold smuggling. It doesn’t look like a contemporary series as the costumes and overall setting seem to be something from the past.
Women dressed up in silks and golds running a mafia sure seems fascinating but at the same time let’s hope that the makers are not overdoing it.
More importantly, it is being produced by Yash Raj Films.
So is it the first Telugu original series from the platform?
Maybe. Because it is set in a village in Andhra Pradesh the dressing style of the women is also close to what they wear in the Telugu-speaking states.
But so was true for Rana Naidu which is actually a Hindi series.
Let’s see if Akka is a Telugu series or not.
The series stars Keerthy Suresh, Radhika Apte and Tanvi Azmi. All of them are highly talented actresses and this series can be a step up from Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo on Hotstar.
