It seems like there is still hope for Real Steel 2. Should Disney greenlight the sequel, expect the return of fan-favorite Charlie Kenton, played by the one and only Hugh Jackman.
Real Steel (2011) was not a mammoth success among the critics. But fans certainly loved it. And their love aided the Shawn Levy directional in minting nearly $300 million globally against a $110 million budget. Over the years, this Hugh Jackman starrer has gained a substantial cult following. It will not be surprising if Disney greenlights its sequel in the future.
Deadpool & Wolverine helmer, Shawn Levy, recently attended the CinemaCon 2024 event to promote the upcoming Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer. One of the journalists there asked the director about the possibility of Real Steel 2. Levy disclosed that he and Jackman have discussed the sequel many times.
“We always talk about Real Steel 2. Because the world won’t let us forget, and I’m glad for that.”
A sequel to Real Steel could work. Thanks to the first film’s substantial fanbase, the movie has found tremendous success on many streaming services. In addition, robot boxing is a unique and intriguing idea that can be taken to new and unexplored heights with a sequel. Establishing an emotional relationship between a robot and a human seems impossible, but Real Steel did it. Plus, watching Max Kenton’s growth as a young adult could turn out interesting. However, the problem that can hinder the sequel’s confirmation by Disney is Dakota Goyo, the actor who played Max in the first film. Well, he retired from acting in 2014, presenting a recasting challenge. While it’s uncertain if Goyo will return, a well-written script could overcome this hurdle.
Stream Real Steel on SonyLIV, starring Hugh Jackman and Dakota Goyo. Enjoy! Stay tuned for more updates!
