Fans of author Rick Riordan are eagerly waiting for the live-action Percy Jackson series. The show, set to premiere exclusively on the Disney+ streaming platform, will take its inspiration from the author’s globally prominent book series, Percy Jackson & The Olympians. Now, Riordan is optimistic about the show’s renewal for a second season.
Previous adaptations of Riordan’s novels, The Lightning Thief (2010) and Sea of Monsters (2013), met with mixed critical reception upon theatrical release. Fans of the novel series reacted more harshly towards both movies. Even Riordan has expressed his disappointment over these horrible projects. This scenario forced the author to pitch the idea of his novels’ tv adaptations to Disney in 2019. And the company greenlighted the series next year.
Rick Riordan took part in a recent Goodreads Q & A where he shared his optimism about the Percy Jackson series getting renewed for a second season. This is what he said:
“That’s the idea, yes. Of course, first we have to get approval to do future seasons. Right now, we are only green-lit for one season, but if you all watch and like it, I am optimistic we will get approval to do more.”
Disney is yet to comment on this matter. So far, we have only one season of Percy Jackson. Though, the author believes that more seasons will come after the arrival of Season 1.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians stars Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. The rest of the cast includes Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Megan Mullally, Jason Mantzoukas, Timm Sharp, Dior Goodjohn, and Charlie Bushnell. The show may premiere next year on the Disney+ streaming platform. Stay tuned for more updates.
