Samuel L. Jackson is known for being a part of multiple prominent Hollywood movie franchises like Jurassic Park, Die Hard, Star Wars, Marvel Cinematic Universe, and many more. But there is no doubt in admitting that Nick Fury has become the actor’s most recognisable character on a worldwide level. Everyone knows Fury as the former head of S.H.I.E.L.D. The Marvel fans will also witness the character working with the Skrulls in the upcoming MCU series, Secret Invasion. We know that Jackson is now one of the important faces of the MCU. He has appeared as Fury in a total of 11 MCU projects so far. Plus, his character will resurface in The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, scheduled to dispatch theatrically next year. Despite all these things, one may wonder why a performer like him is not a part of the DCEU. Will the fans see him in a future DC movie or tv series? Here’s what we know about this matter.
Jackson shared his thoughts about the DC universe in a recent interview conducted by the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Surprisingly, the actor was very candid with his views:
“Well, I mean, we’re all– actors are mercenaries,” Jackson said. “It’s kinda what we do, we act who we act for but… But I dunno that I’m going to read a DC script that’s gonna make me go, ‘Yeah, this is dope!… I mean, I’m a comic book fan, so I’ve been reading comic books forever… And truth be told, I don’t even read Marvel comic books… I read DC comics my whole life, you know. We all came through Superman, Batman, Silver Surfer… Aquaman, I was a swimmer… I was all about DC. But I don’t know what the thing is about them cinematically…”
Samuel L. Jackson openly mentioned the lack of dependability and consistency of DC movies as compared to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige launched the MCU for Marvel Studios in 2008 and the rest is history. On the other hand, DC has not yet forged a stable franchise of superheroes since Man of Steel’s arrival in 2013. Yes, there are some DCEU entries like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam!, and many more that worked fine in terms of critical reception and box office collections during their respective theatrical runs. But they acted more like stand-alone stories rather than continuing DCEU’s timeline.
It is not like Samuel L. Jackson has never been a part of a DC film before. He starred as a baddie in Frank Miller’s The Spirit comic book adaptation back in 2008. However, the movie was declared as one of the worst comic book adaptations of all time by the viewers. Maybe that’s why the actor decided to stay away from the DC world for so long.
