Disney Eyes another TV adaptation for Disney+ and this time it is a non marvel and non star wars film that is getting the honours. The 1988 fantasy drama ‘Willow’ which was directed by Ron Howard has been greenlit by the streaming giant for a television adaptation.
The original film starred Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick from Wizarding World), Val Kilmer, Jean Marsh, Patricia Hayes, Billy Barty and others. The movie followed Warwick Davis as Willow Ufgood who is a dwarf and a farmer, he plays a crucial role in saving an infant named Elora Danan from the evil queen Bavmorda as the young infant is the only person who can bring the downfall of the queen.
The movie was a decent success at the time of it’s release but soon became a classic for the upcoming audience. The television adaptation at Disney+ will be one of the many TV adaptations ordered by Disney all set to arrive in the coming years.
Reportedly, the talks regarding the Revival of the film was going for 18 months and now the project is out in the open, Jon M Chu will be helming the first episode of the show and will also serve as the executive producer. He will join Jonathan Kasdan (Solo) and Wendy Mericle (Arrow) who will be serving as the showrunners.
The original film was written by Bob Dolman from the story by George Lucas. Dolman will be returning as the consulting producer of the show with Ron Howard being one of the executive producer as well.
According to reports, Willow will be set years after the original film and will serve as the sequel for the fantasy drama. Hence it will have a whole new lot of characters in the fantasy realm featuring monsters, evil queen, fairy etc. Warwick Davis is also set to return and reprise his role of Willow Ufgood.
The show will be going on floors next year and will be joined by several others like Loki, SheHulk, Hawkey, Wandavison, Upcoming original series of Nick Fury and etc.
