American cinematographer Ellen Kuras’ work includes narrative and documentary films, music videos, and commercials. Her upcoming venture is a highly anticipated war dramatization of photographer Elizabeth `Lee’ Miller, a fashion model who became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II.
The big project boasts a star-studded ensemble cast including industry veteran Kate Winslet as the titular character Lee Miller, Jude Law, Josh O’Connor, Andy Sandberg, Alexander Skarsgård, and Marion Cotillard. Distributed by StudioCanal UK, the film is all set to release in theatres worldwide on September 27.
The 65-second preview into the feature offers a multitude of photomontages: an idyllic summer place surrounded by trees and sunshine, and then, flying shrapnel and gravel in the midst of a warzone. In retaliation to a presumed journalist when he assumes she went to war to become a people’s name, the legendary photographer exudes nuanced confidence and bravery.
Shook by clippings of the proceedings of the war, she decides to leave her life behind and capture the gore and cruelty of it all through her camera lens. The bold narration and plot of the film promise a deep dive into the numerous unseen wounds caused by World War II.
