“What If…?”, Marvel’s next project is slated to release on August 11, and we are just days away from the series at the moment. What If…? is Marvel Studios’ first ever animated series and even before its release, it’s already making headlines like any other Marvel project. What If…? is one amongst the many series from MCU, that will be released in an anthology form. What If…? will be bringing back an army of our favourite Avengers back once again, but this time as voice artists.
Except Scarlett Johansson and Tom Holland, the team consists of 54 artists that include names like Mark Ruffalo, Josh Brolin, Don Cheadle, Chadwick Boseman, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Evangeline Lily, Hayley Atwell and many more. “What If…?”, if one isn’t aware, will focus on some of the most iconic events in the MCU and see how it would be if someone else was there in place of the original person. The series will introduce one of the most important multiversal characters into the MCU, which is “The Watcher”.
But despite all these, one of the most interesting revelations made by the creators is that the character of Peggy Carter will be one of the most important ones of all. They have even claimed that she will be one character who will appear every season, if more seasons are brought in. In regular series terms, we can say she will be a series regular. This doesn’t usually happen especially since it’s an anthology.
The creators have mentioned that Peggy Carter’s character, who is Captain Carter in the series, will be very important for the mutliverse inclusion. Captain Carter will be one character that will help open many doors in the mutliverse and is said to be one of the closest to “The Watcher”. Her connections with The Watcher and her role in the multiverse changing will be interesting to see.
Besides that, this will mean Hayley Atwell voicing Captain Carter, will be in the MCU for quite some time. The actress has been part of some important series and films, but her series didn’t pan out well with the audience, besides “Captain America” and “The Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D”. Coming back to the MCU and having a character which is strong enough to come back for even more seasons after this and since multiverse is the theme of this Phase, who knows, she might make an appearance in one of the movies of series in reality, rather than just voice acting.
So, even if we don’t see Hayley Atwell in reality, fans can at least hear her voice again.
