Wonka, starring Timothee Chalamet, is all set to hit the theatres worldwide on December 15.
The pre-Christmas season is a risky time for any Hollywood movie, as many big studios like releasing their big-budget projects during this time of the year. As a result, films with low hype or entries belonging to ‘not so much’ popular franchises often get adversely affected in terms of collections in this scenario. This December, the upcoming Paul King directional, Wonka, will come out in the theatres.
According to Deadline, Wonka is expected to mint nearly $35-40 million in its opening weekend, which is impressive considering the opening weekend collection of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), which was released on December 20 and earned approximately $1 billion globally.
Wonka may emerge as a box-office success. A lot depends upon the film’s first-week collections because WB’s Aquaman 2 (led by Jason Momoa) will arrive in theatres on December 22. Despite being the last DCEU instalment, the James Wan directional’s future looks a bit foggy. No one knows how it will perform, as the majority of superhero lovers have lost their interest in the DCEU. Though, the film can surprise everyone, considering the popularity and financial performance of the first Aquaman instalment (2018), which grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide.
Also, we should not forget Illumination’s forthcoming animated project, Migration, starring Kumail Nanjiani, Elizabeth Banks, Keegan-Michael Kay, and more. We all know how powerful Illumination animated flicks are in terms of earnings. The studio’s last entry, The Super Mario Bros Movie, raked in over $1.3 billion globally. Migration is based on an original story from Benjamin Renner and Mike White, unlike the latest Mario entry. Still, it may benefit immensely from its studio’s global prominence.
Wonka needs to perform well and earn as much as it can in its first week to get a strong financial start. This scenario will ultimately aid the film in standing firmly while facing strong competition from both Aquaman 2 and Migration. Apart from Timothee Chalamet, the movie has talents like Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Kay, Matt Lucas, Sally Hawkins, Hugh Grant, Olivia Colman, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
