Now that the entire WWE content library is available on Netflix in India, this article will focus on the highlights and the aspects that this iconic shift has missed. As part of WWE’s long-term deal with Netflix, all of the wrestling promotion’s key weekly episodic shows—RAW, SmackDown, NXT—and PLEs (Premium Live Events) are now available to stream on Netflix. Previously, these were available on SonyLIV in India.
Things We Like About WWE on Netflix India
All Seasons or Editions of WWE’s PLEs Are Available on Netflix
Yes, you read that right. WWE is known for delivering key PLEs every year, including the “Big Four”—WrestleMania, Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, and SummerSlam. In addition to these blockbuster events, other PLEs available on Netflix India include Elimination Chamber, King and Queen of the Ring, Money in the Bank, Backlash, Crown Jewel, and more.
You can also revisit popular PLEs from the iconic “Attitude Era” and the “Ruthless Aggression” era. Even events from the pre-Attitude Era, such as the In Your House series, are available to stream. And the best part? Subscribers don’t have to pay extra beyond their existing Netflix subscription tiers—making it a great deal.
Raw Vault, SmackDown Vault, and NXT Vault
The “Vault” category for WWE’s major weekly episodic shows features a treasure trove of the most popular episodes from Raw, SmackDown, and NXT since their inception. For instance, Raw debuted on January 11, 1993, and you can watch its first-ever episode on Netflix India. The same applies to the SmackDown and NXT Vaults.
This is exciting news for the newer generation of WWE fans in India—especially those who grew up during the PG era—giving them the chance to experience the magic of the Attitude Era and Ruthless Aggression era firsthand.
Reduced Number of Ads
In its final days on SonyLIV, WWE content received harsh criticism from Indian fans due to excessive ads disrupting the viewing experience. And it was completely SonyLIV’s fault.
This is where Netflix India delivers a major improvement. Viewers only see ads during live streams of WWE shows, while recorded versions remain ad-free—a huge relief for many WWE fans in India.
Things We Don’t Like About WWE on Netflix India
Lack of WWE Documentaries
One of the biggest disappointments in WWE’s shift to Netflix India is the absence of WWE documentaries. If you were hoping to binge-watch some of WWE’s most insightful documentaries, you might be in for a letdown.
Before the transition, SonyLIV featured a variety of WWE documentaries, including WWE Untold, WWE 24, WWE Ruthless Aggression, The Monday Night War, The Brothers of Destruction, Undertaker: The Last Ride, The Rise and Fall of ECW, Steve Austin: Bottom Line, CM Punk: Best in the World, and The Ultimate Legend.
None of these are available on Netflix India, which is a significant downside for Indian WWE fans.
Streaming Quality Issues
The streaming quality of WWE content on Netflix depends on your subscription tier. If you’re not on the “Standard” or “Premium” plans, don’t expect to watch WWE shows in HD or 4K. Users on the “Mobile” tier, in particular, may find it disappointing when trying to watch WWE on larger, high-resolution screens.
Historically, WWE distributed its programming through home video formats under the WWF Official Video banner. Coliseum Video produced VHS and Betamax cassettes, featuring curated match compilations, wrestler biographies, and music video-style presentations of entrance themes.
As WWE’s popularity surged, it transitioned from home video to broadcast television, initially in standard definition. However, as media consumption evolved, WWE adopted high-definition (HD) broadcasting.
This means that if you’re on a “Mobile” or “Basic” plan, you may not be satisfied with the streaming quality—especially when watching shows that originally aired before 2008. Stay tuned for more updates.
