‘You think you know me!’ The Rated-R Superstar and WWE Hall of Famer, Adam Copeland, aka Edge, is set to appear in Disney+’s television adaptation of Rick Riordan’s novel ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’. The globally prominent Canadian professional wrestler will be seen portraying the ancient Greek god of war, Ares, in the show.
Copeland recently had a fantastic match with the Irish WWE superstar, Sheamus, at the WWE Smackdown event held in his hometown, Toronto (Canada), on August 18. The event also marked his 25-year anniversary in WWE. Many believe this was his last match in Toronto as he plans to retire from professional wrestling.
In the forthcoming Percy Jackson Disney+ series, Copeland is set to portray Ares, the son of Hera and Zeus and a member of the Twelve Olympians. The ancient Greek deity is notorious for loving violence, forcing other deities to despise him. Though, he managed to get a seat on the Olympian ruling council because of his parentage.
Ares could play a bigger and more important role in the show than he did in the novels. He becomes a part of the Percy Jackson universe through the first novel, The Lightning Thief. The series’ teaser showed Copeland donning Ares’ iconic black costume and wielding his signature sword. In that scene, we can see a lighthouse behind him, indicating that the character is in Santa Monica. It is the place where his and Percy’s battle takes place in the first novel. If this scenario turns out true, Copeland’s Ares may get more screen time and importance in the show than in the novels.
According to some fan theories, Ares may have been keeping a close eye on Percy since the latter was just a child. Yes, this plotline deviates from the source material, but it would give Copeland’s Ares a deep-rooted history and more significance in the show.
‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ will arrive on Disney+ on December 20. Stay tuned for more updates.
